So many people dream of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra but very few are able to undertake the yatra to the Mount Kailash. One, the yatra is very arduous and two, only fully medically fit person can take the yatra.
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra takes off from Delhi, where pilgrims are examined of their physical fitness. After a thorough medical check-up necessary documents like visa are given to the yatris. Before embarking on the arduous journey they are briefed about the various aspects of the journey. After necessary documentation, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra starts. The journey takes the pilgrims to Kathgodam-Alomra-Didihat-Dharchula-Tawaghat-Budhi-Gunji-Kalapani-Nabidhang-Lipulekh-Takalakot-Jollingkong-Chotta Kailash.
The Mount Kailash lies in Tibbet and has a special significance for the Hindus, Tibbetan Buddhism, Jains and Bonpo-pre Buddhist animistic religion. According to the Hindus, the Mount Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva. Tibetans call the Mount Kailash as Khang Rimpoche, which means precious jewel of Snow. Tibetans see the mountain as the navel of the world. It is believed that a stream flows into a nearby lake and from here rivers flow in the four directions.
The Mount Kailash is situated in the north of the Himalayan barrier and lies in Tibbet. The Mount Kailash is at an altitude of 6,675 m above sea level. The Mount Kailash is considered as the centre of universe according to the Puranas and Buddhist text. The pilgrimage is a 53 kilometres walk around the mountain.
