The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary in rajasthan is one of the finest bird sanctuaries in the world and rightly so, it is famous as 'Ornithologist's Paradise'. Also known as 'Keoladeo Ghana National Park', the sanctuary is home to a variety of unique, exotic and rare birds. It is the only manmade wildlife sanctuary in India, beautifully developed by an erstwhile Maharaja of Bharatpur. The sanctuary is home to over 300 species of bird that include indigenous as well as migratory water birds including the world famous the Siberian Cranes. The park also shelters many rare and endangered species of birds. The Sanctuary was given the status of the National Park on 10th March 1982, and was declared a World Heritage Site in December 1985.
The greatest attraction for the tourists visiting the park is world famous Siberian Cranes, who spend their winters in the sanctuary, the only second habitat for them in the world. Other important birds, which can be spotted at the Bharatpur bird sanctuary, include Pelicans, Cranes, Ducks, Eagles, Hawks, Pipits, Warblers, Wheatears, Wagtails, Flycatchers, Buntings, Larks, Shanks, and Stints to name a few with.
Besides, you can spot many wild animals including Sambar, Chital, Chinkara, Blackbuck, Nilgai and wild boar among many others.
You can enjoy a boat safari to explore this picturesque park and spot colorful and exotic birds. An early morning or a late evening boat ride in the artificial lake of the sanctuary can be an enchanting and rewarding experience for its visitors. You can also hire a rickshaw to spot birds in the park. Rickshaw drivers have been well-trained by the park management and can be quite helpful in your bird spotting adventure.
